While we are waiting around for a few more articles to come in for the next issue of Digital Web Magazine, I took some of my spare time to update my portfolio. Specifically the art section.

Jeffrey Zeldman's mom passed away today at 3:35 pm eastern time.

Do not stand at my grave and weep;
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry;
I am not there, I did not die.

Please keep Jeffrey Zeldman in your thoughts and, if you are religious, in your prayers tonight. His mother's condition has worsened. He says she could go at any time now.

Keep your calendars marked for the Web2000 conference. This year's "Cool Site in a Day" should be a real blast. I have been assigned with the task of heading up one of the two teams in the competition. The c2x2 team includes myself, Carole Guevin, Matthew Haughey, Makiko Itoh, Paul Petrunia and last but certainly not least, Matt Rea. I hope to see you there.

Like something out of the classic Frankenstein movie, Jeffrey Zeldman screams, "It's alive! Alive!" That's right, The Web Standards Project is back and ready for more action.

Welcome back Kaliber10000 with, as Toke puts it, "speeds of lightning giving you that foul smell of burnt rubber lingering in your nostrils... K has got the afterburner cellotaped to it's bollocks!" Welcome back guys, we have missed you!

Speech Therapy has posted a new Interview with yours truly. I talk a little bit about some of my recent challenges and issues that I have had to overcome. We talk about working at agencies and I talk about criticism of personal sites and a lot more. Good reading.

Jeffrey Zeldman writes about dealing with his mother's Alzheimer's. It makes me realize that there is more to life than just doing what you enjoy... and that is, enjoying others around you while they are still around.

If anyone happens to be in the San Francisco area at the time of Web2000 please let me know. I will be there for the first week of November and I plan to meet as many web-heads as I can. More news later on why I will be in San Francisco, but I can tell you it is both business and pleasure.

I am off to Wieden and Kennedy today. No not for a job (I have had my fare share of working for large corporations) however, feel free to send me any job offers as I am currently between jobs. This time the meeting is for a focus group about computer and video games. It should be pretty cool.

Josh Kneedler over at Dreaming America just told me that they have released a brand new zine called Ranger Magazine. Don't be fooled, this is no typical e-zine... it's all about content and design with some nice kung fu scripting action and effects. Congrats to Josh, Kerry Seed, Scott Benish, Ryan Matson and the rest of the Ranger Mag crew.

Who said size matters? Check out this tiny design shop out of Chicago called D6GA, they are producing some rather killer stuff. Props to the DiK guys for passing the linkage along... speaking of DiK, did you get your T-Shirt yet?

Thanks to Ryan Mayer of Interbaun Communications for posting a message on the Creative Republic mailing list about Critique's "17 Myths of Graphic Design". Some of which I agree with, most of which I disagree with, all of which calls for a good discussion. Special thanks to Marc Klein for building probably the best web design related mailing list I have ever been a part of.

As some of you may or may not know. I have decided to make a change in my lifestyle. I have decided to leave my job as senior technical designer at White Horse Interactive in search for a more creative role at a much smaller company.

I look back on my three years or so at White Horse and wonder about what went wrong with my passion for design... about what went wrong with the web. Have we all been brain washed to believe the web is about making a sale, whatever happened to sharing information or creative expression? What ever happened to the art and information in it all. Maybe it's just my Dada roots showing, but I feel the soul of the web has been lost in the idea of the web agency. Where have all the craftsmen gone? Where is the passion to do a good job and not just to get the job done? Here's to the road less traveled.

Hot off the press, another fine addition to Jeffrey Zeldman's HTML Hell column at Adobe. This time he addresses what he calls "Talking Structure" in which he explains how web designers get sucked into building meaningless interfaces.
